A few shots of the devastation
A brief look at the work PRC is currently doing as part of the disaster relief efforts.
99% of the homes in Pangtang and surrounding communities
collapsed completely. The PRC team drove tents for 2,500 families and 50,000
lbs. of food as close as they could get by road and then carried the goods in
from there. The PRC team, including a doctor from Australia, provided tents and
food to the entire VDC (municipality) while the Australian doctor saw to the
medical needs of people in the village.
They are taking another 17 tons of food and tarps in a
truck to Sindhupalchok. PRC is coordinating with the Sindhupalchok district
office to know which villages haven't received help yet. They have also
organized group cooking areas so to conserve on fuel and encourage the
villagers to work together.
PRC has so far helped 5770 families in Gorkha and
Sindhupalchok district of Nepal. We will continue to raise support and help
more families. We are expecting to help another 3000+ families in next few
days.
After a disaster like this there usually is a rise in the
numbers of girls and children being trafficked due to people being displaced
and children being orphaned. Consequently, many in these communities have been
educated about trafficking and the tricks of traffickers. They are especially
alert at this time for traffickers and keeping a watchful eye on the most
vulnerable in their villages.
